Common questions
Questions we get asked.
What is the difference between solid and engineered hardwood?
Solid hardwood is milled from a single piece of wood. Engineered hardwood uses a real wood wear layer over a stable core built up in layers. Engineered construction tends to handle slab foundations and changes in humidity more predictably, which matters in a lot of Southern California homes. Both are real wood on the surface.
How long does hardwood flooring last?
Hardwood is generally chosen as a long-term floor. How long it lasts depends on the product, the conditions in the room, how it is maintained and how it was installed. Solid hardwood can often be refinished; engineered can too, depending on the thickness of the wear layer.
Is hardwood good for high-traffic areas?
Hardwood is used in high-traffic areas all the time. Species hardness, the finish and the colour all affect how well daily wear is hidden. We can point out which options tend to hold up best.
How long does hardwood installation take?
It varies with the size of the space, the installation method and the condition of the subfloor. Some products also need to acclimate before installation. We will give you a schedule once the project has been measured.
